About WG Hoarding Response
The Wellington Guelph Hoarding Response (WGHR) represents a committed group of organizations in Guelph Wellington that have come together to provide support and resources for persons with hoarding challenges. Together we continue to build capacity to support each other and situations where home safety is compromised due to clutter.
Organizational History
2010
- Conversations among services re: need for resources for hoarding
- Advisory Board formed
- Funding secured to conduct needs assessment & current resources
2011
- Hired part-time Project Lead to research hoarding task force models
- Research culminated in half-day workshop
2012
- Previous funding renewed
- Developed 10 Steps Checklist & Video
- Multidisciplinary Team formed
- Education Committee formed
2013
- Part-time Coordinator hired to focus on public and service provider education
- Began presentations to service providers (harm reduction) and public (10 Steps Checklist)
- Partnership with University of British Columbia to gather statistics, creating a “snapshot” of hoarding in Wellington Guelph
2014
- Started clinical consultations with Dr. Karen Rowa through OTN
- Continued education for public and service providers
- Funding secured for “Flex Fund” (cleaning and organizers)
2015
- Full-time Coordinator hired
- Began individual consultation for service providers & public
2016
- Started ongoing, weekly peer support group in partnership with CMHA’s Self-Help and Peer Support
- Offered first annual education sessions for families & loved ones
- Conducted needs analysis of services for hoarding in Wellington Guelph
- Hosted first Ontario Provincial Hoarding Network meeting
2017
- Ontario Provincial Hoarding Network (OPHN) Advisory Committee formed
2018
- Partnership with University of Guelph’s Community Engaged Scholarship Institute to identify current service models gaps and opportunities
2019
- eLearning Modules developed and launched
- WGHR website updated and revised
